Changing Course
"Leadership an action for a sustainable future local strategies and solutions".
A project rooted in awareness, community leadership, and real environmental change.
What is Changin Course?
Changin Course is a project led by Mujeres Latinas of South Carolina to engage, empower, and elevate the Latinx community in local climate action.
Born from our commitment to social justice, environmental equity, and civic participation, this initiative ensures that all people can take part in decisions that impact their health, environment, and future.
Our Goals

1
Train and support community leaders who understand climate challenges and build sustainable action from the ground up.
2
Foster intercultural dialogue between communities, institutions, and policy-makers.
3
Develop accessible, real-world solutions based on our communities' lived experiences.
Why this project matters
The impacts of climate change aren’t felt equally.
Latinx communities—many of whom are immigrants, essential workers, and residents of high-risk areas—are often among the most affected by extreme heat, air pollution, and food insecurity.
At the same time, our communities bring ancestral knowledge, sustainable practices, and deep collective strength.
Climate First exists to recognize, organize, and amplify that power.

Our First Climate Forum
In 2025, we proudly hosted the first-ever Climate First Forum—a landmark gathering where Latinx voices took center stage in the conversation on climate justice in South Carolina.
This event brought together community leaders, environmental experts, allies, and families to share stories, identify challenges, and co-create solutions that reflect the lived realities of our people.
